About North Georgia got its start as a series of pages on Compuserve early in 1994. It then moved to pipeline.net, then netcom.com. In 1995 the pages were grouped under our first name, Welcome to North Georgia. Finally, in April, 1996, About North Georgia registered the familiar "ngeorgia.com," and the web site was on its way. We accepted our first external contribution that year, from Regina Wheeler of the Cartersville-Bartow County CVB.

Over the years the site grew and grew. Publisher Randy Golden, an avid hiker, began writing about the trails he and his wife Pam hiked. By 1998 it became the first spin-off of About North Georgia, GeorgiaTrails.com. That same year we added a managing editor to the quarterly and began to use our trademark slogan "History, Travel and Adventure in the mountains of North Georgia."

In 1999 the site had begun to evolve under the guidance of Larry Worthy and it seemed that Welcome to North Georgia didn't really express the direction of the site, so we changed it to "About North Georgia." Recognition began pouring in. Georgia Hospitality, Encyclopedia Britannica, The Discovery Channel, The History Channel, Southern Living, Reader's Digest, and many, many more. That year we began plans for Roadside Georgia, which started in 2000.

Today we continue with a vision that is not directed by outside factors, but by the deep conviction that providing interesting content and useful information will keep the site popular. In fact, About North Georgia routinely makes it into the top 5000 Internet sites, based on both page views and unique visits.

In 2002 our 4th Georgia web site, Our Georgia History came on-line and in 2006 we began work on the Blue and Gray Trail, a Civil War website. In the future Scenic North America will expand our horizon, taking the "down-home" style of About North Georgia across the country.
