This question was asked in April, 1998. We now rank highly in the better search engines
I am a first time visitor and love the site, but finding you was diffcult. I looked under Dahlonega in Altavista, and luckily the Chamber of Commerce had a link to your site. Why don't you work on getting a higher ranking

Trying to get a top ranking in the search engines would be a full-time task for the site (We have thousands of pages). Unfortunately, page size has a lot to do with ranking (except for Yahoo), which just about kills a content-rich site like About North Georgia.
We have been encouraging people with web pages to add links to pages they like on their pages. This has generated an incredible response. And if you make your query longer in Altavista, you probably would have gotten our site in the top 10.
Anyway, we don't write for the search engines, we try to be informative, educational and entertaining. And last year over 6 million people said thanks by downloading a page.
