Rex Actually, we were quite surprised by this statement. Since elementary school we have always been taught that Georgia was the largest state east of the Mississippi. We decided to check the World Almanac And Book of Facts for the answer, and indeed, Georgia is the largest state. The figure you are quoting includes an undefined "water area" of 30,000 square miles, almost one-third of the total land area. This means that the figure includes a substantial amount of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. To a lesser extent the same is true for Florida and Wisconsin The Editors
