On the last Sunday in April Marietta Square is the tastiest place to be in the state. Each year local restaurants bring their best food so that the 50,000 plus visitors can savor what makes Marietta a popular dining destination. Take a couple hours to visit and you'll be hooked!
Three of the four streets around the antebellum square are closed off, making a great environment for walking around downtown with the kids. You'll want to stop at the antique cars that are always a lot of fun to study. You might see a classic Model T or a near classic Mustang. Then its off the food vendors.
One street is dedicated to a wide variety of food, drink and dessert. Although there is a modest charge for each of the meals, it is very easy to fill up quickly. Steak, fish, chicken, pork - barbecued, fried or grilled, the Taste of Marietta has it all! We particularly enjoyed a cup of early afternoon coffee thanks to local coffee vendor Cool Beans Coffee Shop and a sweet treat from Douceur de France.
For the main meal we savored some of the local pizza, enjoyed some Chinese cuisine and filled our stomachs to overflowing with barbecued ribs.
Afterwards, take the kids over to the play area where the Marietta Business Association, the Marietta Welcome Center and the city of Marietta have provided those air-rides that are so popular these days. What a great time for the kids. For the adults, many of the stores around the square are open, and that means one thing - antique shopping. Marietta has long been the choice of knowledgeable antique buyers who want to escape those high Atlanta prices.
