A Walk in the Woods : Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trailby Bill Bryson This is a tale of two overweight, over-the-hill former college chums who set out from Springer Mountain to regain their lost youth and find themselves along the way. Bill Bryson does a good job of mixing humor, pathos and a boyish sense of wonder in this solid entry in the "I found the Appalachian Trail" genre. We won't give away the ending, but the unique characters who they discover along the way are interesting fodder for Mr. Bryson's pen. We enjoyed this entry, and if you like a laid-back look at hiking the trail, we recommend it.Appalachian Adventure : From Georgia to Maine : A Spectacular Journey on the Great American Trail by Many A group of reporters hike portions of the Appalachian Trail
