Starting in 2000, the Georgia Department of Transportation is required by the federal government to renumber all exits to correspond to the common exit numbering scheme. To prepare you for Georgia's Year 2000 problem, About North Georgia and the Georgia DOT have combined forces to get this information out to motorists in the North Georgia area.
Over the next year the current exit signage will be replaced with signage that indicates both the old and new numbers. Later the old numbers will be removed. The change makes the exit number the mileage from the southern border of the state to the exit and from eastern border of the state to the west exit (where applicable).
