| Union General William S. Rosecrans and his Army of the Cumberland pursued Confederate General Braxton Bragg's Army of Tennessee into Northwest Georgia trying to reach the Western and Atlantic Railroad, leading up to the Battle of Chickamauga. |

| On April 4, 1977, during a thunderstorm Southern Airways Flight 242, a DC-9 jet tried to land on 2-lane Georgia 92. 61 people on the aircraft and 7 more on the ground died on impact |
