The sounds of rolling thunder fills the air of the nation, A cry of dispair comes from the founders of this creation A family against family, brother against brother; For a war has begun, a war like no other. This war was not designed at our nation's birth; It would fill the nation, with blood soiled turf. It would leave many a valiant man, dead in his prime; Never again to see Winter, Fall, Spring, or Summertime. A division of country was the cause to be, A division of beliefs, and the desire to be free. Free from forms of oppression was one belief; They formed their own country, to seek relief. The nation shall not be divided, came the other cry, And for that belief, many would die. Blacks shall not be slaved but made free, was the yell; For this belief, many would endure a living Hell. A house divided against itself cannot stand, one man said; If we can't have our rights, voices cried, we would rather be dead. Difference of cultures, rights, and beliefs filled the air, Not even fields of dead, would decide what was fair. After four years of dying, the war came to an end, But generations after, the beliefs would never bend. Despite the valiant dead, left on the bloody field, The beliefs of both sides, would never yield. T'is the time for the trumpet to sound the song of peace, T'is the time for anger and hatred to cease, T'is the time to remember the valiant did not die in vain, T'is the time for differences, to begin to wane. Never forget the reasons what those valiant men died for, But let us heal the wound from shore to shore. Let the nation be again brothers in peace and love; For this would be the wish, of our God in Heavens above. |
