A Holiday Tradition

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, as Rock City Gardens prepares for its 6th Annual "Enchanted Garden of Lights," to benefit Christmas for Kids. Open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., November 17 through Decmber 30, 2000 except for Christmas Eve night, the dazzling light extravaganza will feature more than half a million twinkling lights, as 25 holiday scenes transform the gardens' natural daytime splendor into a glorious nocturnal fantasyland. In its fifth year, "Enchanted Garden of Lights" is rapidly becoming a favorite family tradition. Growing in popularity each year, approximately 50,000 people from all over the world visited the holiday attraction last year and more are expected to be "walking through a winter wonderland" at Rock City Gardens this holiday season.

Sponsors of this year's "Enchanted Garden of Lights" are US 101 and Chattanooga Bakery's Moon Pie.

A special treat this year will be "Music Under the Moon," a series of holiday concerts. Each night, youngsters can visit and have their pictures made with Santa under the Cliff Terrace Pavilion, and enjoy gingerbread cookie decorating along the Enchanted Trail.

Admission is $10.95 for adults, $5.95 for children ages 3-12, and free for children aged 2 and under. Group rates, gift certificates and catering are available upon request by calling toll free 1-877-820-0759. For the sixth year a portion of all ticket proceeds from "Enchanted Garden of Lights" will benefit Christmas for Kids/Forgotten Child Fund. In a joint venture between US 101 and the Chattanooga Fire and Police Departments, this charitable organization provides toys for underprivileged children throughout the metro Chattanooga area. Last year more than 3,000 children's Christmases were made brighter as a result of the benefit drive.

Now in its 68th year of operation, Rock City Gardens is one of Georgia's oldest and most popular environmental attractions. Located atop Lookout Mountain, approximately six miles from downtown Chattanooga, Rock City is a true marvel of nature featuring massive ancient rock formations, gardens with more than 400 different native plant species, and panoramic views 1700 feet above sea level. Other features include the newly opened Cornerstone Station, remodeled Big Rock Cafe, assorted gift shops and the ever-popular Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village.

Rock City is open daily for self-guided tours from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through January 1, 2000, except Christmas Day. In addition to Rock City Gardens, See Rock City Inc. also owns and operates the Battles for Chattanooga Museum.
